"(…) I don’t know what I want, you don’t know
who your are, and we are almost even."
Lola Gonzàlez’s latest films show us her new and old friendships, her ability to bind together people whom she has met during her stays in different countries, wherein visceral proximity is constantly re-enacted — a way of looking together at the landscape and fearlessly inhabiting it. Here, individuals invent new languages, unusual ways to emancipate themselves from decency and superfluous distance in order to immediately engage in a relationship with the other. The subtitles through which the artist interprets the content of the interactions open up these symbiotic moments to our desire to be part of them. Whether used to get mobilised, to evaluate the flaws of a work that is so close to life or to release energies and desires, the creation of ephemeral languages resonates within us as a reminder of our own friendship stories. The re-invention of language becomes straightforwardly bound to the project of radical emancipation claimed by feminist thinkers.
